    I'd bought the four CDs of Nigel North's Dowland: Complete Lute Music in as they were released, and I've played them all regularly since so decided it was time to listen to another lutenist in the same music. The most striking difference between Lindberg and North's sets is in the sound. North was recorded with much more reverberation with a close, immediate sound, whilst Lindberg's /5(48).

    There are at least three CD sets of the complete solo lute music of John Dowland, by Paul O'Dette, Nigel North, and Jakob Lindberg. All three are marvelous, but I'm inclined to favor this set by the Swedish lutenist Jakob Lindberg, partly because the recording technology seems to my ears to have captured and reproduced the rich timbres of his lute more realistically than the other two, and /5(12).
